Comcast Dramatically Enhances Network Thanks to Ciena, Master Agent Telarus

Recently, headlines were made when Comcast (News - Alert) completely revolutionized its core network, moving to 100G connectivity. This advancement in next generation technology wouldn’t however have been remotely possible without Ciena's coherent optical platform in place.
According to a report, the service provider has begun to leverage Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform that comes complete with WaveLogic coherent optical line interfaces. WaveLogic is an increasingly popular technology due to the fact that it enables companies such as Comcast to move to 400G only once they are fully prepared through utilizing software controllable interfaces.
"Adding Ciena's WaveLogic 3 to our already installed 6500 Packet-Optical Platforms lets us leverage that investment to deliver more content, faster Internet speeds and enable new cloud-based applications for our customers, while also providing future core 400G scalability " said Kevin McElearney, senior vice president, Network Engineering, at Comcast Cable, in a statement.
Comcast is continuing to make key strategic alliances as a way to enhance its footprint. In fact, Telarus an extremely large and respected master agent was recently selected in a group that only totals three to open up Comcast’s direct channel. Highlighted as a Platinum Carrier for the agent, Comcast is the largest cable operator and third-largest telephone company in America. Its robust suite includes broadband Internet, various telephone services, and cable television throughout 19 markets around the country. On the other hand, Comcast Business Class is fully responsible for overseeing the company’s network which includes ensuring that the firm is not being forced to share any physical locations with other phone companies.
