TW Telecom and Level 3 Master Agents Spreading the Holiday Cheer via Newly Inked Partnership
December 10, 2012
Right in time for the holidays, master agents Level 3 and tw telecom (News - Alert) have come together to sing some carols, no but really, the twosome have signed a long-term peering agreement that enables both companies to exchange data on their networks which has many humming joyous tunes. This collaborative effort will prove to significantly benefit Internet customers who use one of the two networks but desire to exchange a variety of information with customers using the other network.
"Level 3's primary focus is on providing quality service for Internet consumers," said Jack Waters, Level 3's chief technology officer, in a recent statement. "We look forward to working with our peering partners to drive broader adoption of this bit-mile model to ensure fair and equitable interconnection. We are also working with providers of traffic-flow monitoring systems to make the measurement process straightforward and consistent across the industry."
With the goal of driving customer satisfaction rates through the roof (even before Santa lands there), the contract is being touted as a "bit-mile" peering agreement, ensuring that the exact same amount of volume of traffic is exchanged as well as the distance over which that traffic is carried by each network are equal.
"tw telecom supports this settlement-free Internet peering approach based on bit-mile balance as a model that assures the most efficient interconnection in the evolving Internet," added Harold Teets, tw telecom senior vice president of Network and Information Technologies. "This agreement will support high-quality service for our respective customers, and will keep the backbone cost burden balanced between our two networks."
Further, this effort will help to launch several interconnection locations between the two telecommunication providers as a preemptive measure to keep up with increasing traffic requirements. This plan will in turn ramp up flexibility, performance and reliability for customers of both businesses.
Both of these organizations are not only remaining on the cutting edge of technology but are also touted as being ranked as top Telarus partners. While tw telecom is a Platinum Sponsor of the master agency and specializes in Ethernet and transport data networking as well as VoIP, security and local and long distance voice services, Level 3 is a Gold Sponsor that powers one of the biggest communications and Internet backbones in the world.
